I have heard this this same "end of system"message, 50 years ago. The urgency was needed, that it was only a matter of months, weeks or even hours to the end of the system. That we should sell out homes and go into the full time service.

It is hard to leave something like the JDubs when all your friends and family still belong to it and treat you differently. It has been almost 20 years for me and I still get some pressure and guilt trips from some of my family members. I have moved on and have my own circle of friends outside of the organization. Like a drug addict or alcoholic, it is not enough to just quit the addiction but you have to develop new hobbies and build new friendships outside of the addiction.

Participating on Assembly Programs and meetings... the hypocritical things that go on
by confusedandalone ini was thinking the other day about how i use to marvel at the idea of being on a ca or do program!
when i was starting to get myself together so to speak i wanted to be one of those guys always giving the powerful talk to shut the assembly down.
the one talk every spoke about in the car ride home.

When I was a teenager the CO cut out a page from a Watchtower that pictures a young teenager. He wrote notations like, "notice the length of his sideburns" and "look what he is wearing". Your point 7 reminds me of one reason why I got away from the cult. It didn't matter how much you did, it was never good enough.

Historical evidence for Christmas and Christs birthday
by DS211 ini just read this feom 4jehovah.org.
there is a historical basis for the december 25th date of christs birth.
justin martyr (100-165 a.d.) wrote marcus aurelius that jesus was born at bethlehem as you can ascertain also from the registers of the taxing.

William Penwell "The two indivuals you are quoting from as your proof material lived over a hundred years after Jesus was born."
So you're saying they were from the same 'generation' as Jesus then.
Splash
I guess as far as the JW's are concerned that would be proof. There is no proof that a person by the name of Jesus even existed.

The two indivuals you are quoting from as your proof material lived over a hundred years after Jesus was born. There also was a pre-Christian Roman celebration, the holiday of Saturnalia around that time of the year.

Favoritism in the Organization
by William Penwell innot sure if this topic has been covered before but i have a question to all of you, did you run across much favouritism while being a jdub?
i know as a working person favouritism is standard practice.
growing up as a jdub and being a naive teenager i always thought that they were above "worldly" people but i learned the hard way and from my own brother in law.

I know it happens in every aspect of life but the JW's like to claim they are above these imperfect traits but in reality they are no better than anyone else. I detest hypocrites.

I know as a working person favouritism is standard practice. Growing up as a Jdub and being a naive teenager I always thought that they were above "worldly" people but I learned the hard way and from my own brother in law. In the congregation he had his little "pets" that he thought could do no wrong and he favored them. Now looking back I actually thank my brother in law for opening my eyes to the hypocrisy and helped me see the true light. He is no longer my brother in law but if only this pompous hypocrite knew that he was the start of my leaving the cult. HA HA
I was wondering if any of you others had similar experiences?

Yeah the Dubs are hypocritical bunch of bastards. If they are so adamant that you are such a bad person they would refuse the child support. Otherwise by them accepting the support, they would have to agree to visitation rights for you. They cannot have it both ways.

Organized to Do Jehovahs Will
by juliew ini found a copy of this book in my childs room at my home.
i am not a jw but their other parent is.. .
should i be concerned.

The only thing you can do is develop critical thinking in your child so they can examine and question everything. Otherwise if you talk against the beliefs of the JW's, you will be labeled as the "devil" by the believing parent. I did not understand everything and the seriousness of my baptism at the age of 17. Also I thought someone under a certain age is not capable of entering into a binding contract or agreement as that is what baptism is all about.

John Lennon: Imagine.....
by confusedandalone inthere's no heaven...... it's easy if you try.... i am not a huge fan of the beatles, not a fan of john lennon really either.
however, this song is one that i think most people tend to like for its airy feel and sentiment.
the funniest thing to me is how the opening 9 words of this song really really really make one think about belief.. honestly for one second trying to imagine there is no heaven, it is easy if you try.

John Lennon was saying if we want to live in peace and unity that to get shed our divisive divisions like religion and politics.
